An Awareness Programme on Human Trafficking and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was organised at Sacred Hearts’ High School, Kulshekar, with the objective of creating awareness among students about child safety, human rights, and legal protection against exploitation.
The programme commenced with a prayer, invoking God’s blessings on the gathering. The Headmistress Sr Cynthia DCunha, warmly welcomed the resource person and the students, highlighting the importance of educating young people about their rights, responsibilities, and personal safety.
The session was led by Sr Wilma Matthew, who served as the resource person. She explained the meaning and forms of human trafficking, its causes, and its serious consequences on individuals and society. She urged students to remain vigilant, avoid unsafe situations, and report any suspicious activities to trusted adults or the appropriate authorities.
Sr Wilma also gave a comprehensive explanation of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, emphasising that the Act safeguards every child from sexual abuse, harassment, and exploitation. She educated the students about recognising unsafe situations, respecting personal boundaries, understanding the concepts of safe and unsafe touch, and the importance of speaking up without fear whenever they feel uncomfortable or threatened.
The session was interactive and informative. Students actively participated by asking questions and sharing their thoughts. The resource person patiently addressed their queries and encouraged them to become responsible, confident, and aware citizens who respect the dignity and rights of every individual.
The programme concluded with a heartfelt vote of thanks, expressing sincere gratitude to Sr Wilma Matthew for her valuable guidance and enlightening presentation. The awareness programme successfully empowered the students with essential knowledge about human trafficking, child protection, and the legal safeguards available under the POCSO Act, inspiring them to promote a safer and more respectful society.
